Popis

Join a 7 km walk along the Napoleonic road near Trieste, visit the brutalist-style sanctuary of Monte Grisa, try local wine in Prosecco village and discover the park of Miramare Castle.

We will start our route from the obelisk near the village of Opicina, walk along the picturesque karst coast, enjoy the views of the Gulf of Trieste and discover its unique climate and flora. After the first pleasant walking part of the route which will last approximately 3.7 km, we'll visit and learn the history of the Sanctuary of Monte Grisa, a stunning brutalist-style church perched on a hill. The viewpont also will offer breathtaking panorama of Trieste city center, sailing ships, and the sea. Continuing along the Napoleonic road after 1.5 km we will reach the lovely village of Prosecco, which gave its name to the famous drink, and learn the history of roman winemaking in this region and, of course, taste the young wine in one of the nearby bars or "osmiza" (depends on the season). After a break we'll go down to the sea and stroll through the park around Miramare Castle. Part of this route will involve walking down steps for about 15 minutes (the descent in this part of the coast does not require physical endurance, but if your knees bother you, you may find it difficult). Together we will discover Miramare, the residence of the Austrian Archduke Maximilian with a vast park full of exotic plants that is now a beautiful place for walks. For travelers who want to see all the main points of the route but prefer to save time and energy, a short version of the tour is also available. In this case, we can come by bus directly to the village of Prosecco, see one of the most panoramic spots along Napoleonic road (without having to do the entire route), climb the short path to the Monte Grisa sanctuary, and then return at a leisurely pace back to Prosecco, take a break at a bar or "osmiza", and descend to the Miramare Park. This route option will definitely be easier, but still requires minimal physical fitness. If you prefer this shorter itinerary, please let me know in advance by writing a message on this website.
