Description
This day out from Koper to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle starts with a pick-up at the cruise terminal in Koper or in Piran, and takes about five hours with guide and transport included. First comes Postojna Cave, among the largest karst cave systems in the world.
An electric train carries you through passages and halls of very different shapes. Keep an eye out for the olm, a salamander that lives only in caves and in water. Then the road continues to the village of Predjama, where the castle clings to a vertical cliff 123 metres high and the Lokva River vanishes beneath it.
The guide explains how medieval builders worked and tells the legend of Erazem of Predjama, the robber baron who owned the castle, along with the story of its 15th-century siege.
