Description
This Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle tour from Trieste takes about six hours in an air-conditioned vehicle, with a group of no more than 8 and the tickets for both sites already covered. The guide is a local, so the stories go beyond the usual tourist path.
Predjama Castle clings to a tall cliff, set inside the opening of a cave. The first small fortress dates from the 13th century; most of what stands today was added in the 16th, in a blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles. You can walk its corridors and picture the knights, sieges and hidden passages in the legends.
At Postojna Cave a small electric train carries you through narrow passages into vast chambers filled with rock formations. An audio guide or live commentary is available in several languages. After the ride you continue on foot at an easy pace.
