Description
Truffle hunting in Istria with the Prodan family begins in the village of Praščari, where hosts Višnja and Mirko, the Prodans of the third generation, greet you with a homemade brandy their father makes. They recount how truffles became the family trade.
You then meet the family's five truffle dogs and follow them into the private woods. The hunt visits several spots passed down within the family, and you can watch how a dog works the ground and what it does when it finds something. Rain does not cancel the walk, which is easy, and boots and raincoats are provided.
Afterwards the mother and daughter of the family cook lunch, with a view of medieval Buzet and the Mirna valley.
- Starters: truffle spreads, cheese, jam and salami, and olive oil with truffles
- Main: eggs scrambled with fresh truffles as you watch, plus a salad
- Dessert: vanilla ice cream drizzled with honey flavoured with white truffle
- Homemade elderflower juice, water and Istrian wines in red and white
The whole experience takes about two and a half hours, and private parking is available.
