Description
Truffle hunting and cooking in Istria fill about three hours at a homestead in Gažon, where the host waits for you at the village bus stop. You head out with a hunter by profession and his dog, and learn how truffles are found, why dogs do the job, how they are trained, which varieties exist and the history of the forbidden hunt in Istria.
Back at the homestead you watch a typical dish being cooked: Istrian pasta called fuži with truffles, including the secret ingredient that makes it special. Then you eat it, with Istrian Malvazia wine, and learn to tell a meal made with real truffles from one flavoured with artificial aromas.

The activity runs all year in any weather, so dress appropriately, and it involves about 1 km of walking. Hotel pick-up is not included, and there is a car park. Children under 7 can join but get no food or drink, and dogs are welcome if the host knows in advance. It is not suitable for wheelchair users.
