Description

This Parenzana e-bike tour links Piran, Portorož, Izola and Koper along the Slovenian coast, with a guide, sea and Alpine views and a tasting of local ham, cheese and wine.

The Parenzana e-bike tour begins at a hidden viewpoint above Portorož and Piran, where the coast opens out toward Italy and Croatia. After a short briefing on riding an electric bike, you roll downhill to Fiesa, whose small lake almost touches the Adriatic and counts among the nicest beaches of the Slovenian coast.

The ride continues under the cliffs to the church of Santa Gorgas and into Piran, then through narrow lanes to Cape Madona and Tartini Square, framed by the Tartini Theatre, the Municipal Palace and the Maritime Museum. A pass through Portorož, the "port of roses", brings a lively contrast. Back on the Parenzana trail you cross two tunnels, follow the Strunjan valley, pass Izola and ride along the beach to the Škocjanski zatok Nature Reserve, a brackish lagoon of nesting islands, saltmarshes and mudflats.

  • Koper: the Praetorian Palace, Muda Gate and Da Ponte Fountain
  • Izola: the church of St. Maver and the old streets
  • Strunjan: Moon Bay, the salt pans and the Stjuža lagoon

The loop returns to the start, where thinly sliced Karst prosciutto, cheese, olives and the wines Refošk and Malvazija wait. The tour lasts about six hours and includes the electric bike, a guide and the tastings. Museum tickets are not covered, and it is not suited to people with mobility impairments.
