Description
In this ceramic workshop in Trieste, a local artist guides a small group through making a decorative plate from scratch. The mood is warm, and the session lasts about two and a half hours. You press shells, fabrics and other sea-inspired elements into the clay to give the surface its texture.
Along the way you learn how different types of clay behave and try carving and shaping techniques, with room to follow your own ideas rather than copy a template. A pause with a cup of coffee leaves time to chat with the others and with the artist.
- Guidance by an artist based in Trieste
- All the materials for the plate
- Use of air-dry clay
- Firing in a ceramic kiln, if you choose it
You have two ways to take your plate home. If you would rather not wait for firing, use air-dry clay and carry the piece away at the end. Otherwise it is fired in the kiln, and you come back to the studio within two months to collect it or have it shipped, depending on weight and size. The workshop is not for children under ten.
