Description
The Trieste walking tour with coffee begins along the Grand Canal, where your guide tells how the surrounding palaces and churches came about. Next comes a synagogue counted among Europe's biggest, then the historic Antico Caffè San Marco, for an introduction to the city's coffee culture. The coffee is not included.
Winding lanes of the old ghetto lead to the well-preserved Roman Theatre. From there you climb San Giusto hill, either walking or taking the lift, to find Roman forum remains and the Cathedral of San Giusto and its mosaics. The lapidarium keeps Roman antiquities and the tomb of Johann Winckelmann, called the father of art history.
On the way down you pass the Arco di Riccardo and reach Piazza Unità d'Italia, the biggest square in Europe facing the sea. The tour lasts about two and a half hours and ends with a stroll along the waterfront and a view of the hills.
