Description
The Trieste historic cafés walking tour traces the city's coffee habit over three unhurried hours and four stops. A live guide explains the history, the dialect and the daily rituals that surround each cup.
It opens in a historic pastry shop at the centre, where a classic sweet treat shows how pastries ended up beside the espresso. Then comes a café from the 1800s close to the canal, a former social salon of the well-off, where the coffee is prepared in another style and the talk turns to status and habits.
Next is a grand café close to the seafront square, long a public stage for Trieste. Here you pick up how to order a coffee like a local, how the custom departs from elsewhere in Italy, and why these rooms mattered for ideas, debate and identity. The last stop is a family-run café with its own roasting in Cavana, to sip a proper Trieste "nero" and watch how beans are roasted.
