Description

The Antiquarium is located on the site where, between 1976 and 1977, the remains of the Roman aqueduct from Val Rosandra were discovered. This was one of three aqueducts that served the Roman city of Tergeste, dating back to the 1st century AD. A section of the conduit, originally running underground, is preserved, with an internal lining in opus signinum that made it waterproof. In the Antiquarium, a segment of the channel and one of the five inspection wells on the vault of the conduit are visible, as well as the archaeological material discovered during the excavations. Upstream of the aqueduct, the remains of a Roman villa have also been identified.
