Description
The Historic Garden of Villa Revoltella is the park that the enormously wealthy Baron Pasquale Revoltella had built on the hill of Chiadino, in Trieste, around a chalet for short holidays and hunting trips. Today it is a public park of about 50,000 square meters, almost all of it on a slope.
Among the red terracotta paths and centuries-old trees you come across the villa, a gloriette, a glass and cast-iron greenhouse above the Italian garden, a collection of old roses and the pond with goldfish and turtles. Farther down are the Pinocchio fountain and a playground.
In front of the pond stands the white Church of San Pasquale Baylon, in Karst stone, built between 1863 and 1866: the baron and his mother Domenica rest in its crypt. It is still one of the favorite churches for romantic weddings.
