Description

Immaginario Scientifico is Trieste's science museum where you do the experiments with your own hands: it takes up part of Magazzino 26, the huge late-19th-century warehouse in the Porto Vecchio. It follows the model of English-speaking science centers: few display cases, lots of things to try for yourself.

The heart of the visit is Fenomena, the section of interactive exhibits, where you discover each principle by testing it: among the stations are the Floating Spheres, which stay suspended in midair. Next to it, multimedia and immersive content tells the story of the research done by Trieste's scientific institutes and the inventions of local companies.

The museum also offers themed workshops and tinkering activities, that is, building and taking apart objects to understand how they work.

The project was born in 1985, after the exhibition Trouver Trieste in Paris. In 1999 the museum opened its first permanent home in Grignano, at the International Center for Theoretical Physics, and in 2020 it moved to the port.
