Description

The Stables of Miramare Castle, designed by engineer Carl Junker at the behest of Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian of Habsburg, were built between 1856 and 1860.
The building, situated on the access road to the Castle coming from Trieste, is located in a sheltered and healthy site, and is sufficiently far from the residence.
Composed of a central body and two symmetrical side wings, it was intended for horses and carriages. In the period between the two world wars, when Miramare Castle was inhabited by the Dukes of Savoy-Aosta, the Stables underwent some modifications that partially altered their original appearance.
Recently restored by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, they are used for temporary exhibitions.
